Treating Your Sports Injury with MLS Laser Therapy
Nothing zaps your performance quite like a sports injury, and unfortunately, every athlete is at risk for injury whether you’re a runner, a cyclist, a boxer, or a golfer.
The good news is that there are plenty of strategies to reduce your risk of injury e.g., warming up, cross-training, and using the right gear.
But even with these prevention steps, injuries still happen, and that’s where our team at Precision Laser Joint and Spine Pain Center comes into the picture.
In addition to physical therapy, Dr. Dustin Hamoy offers multi-wave locked system (MLS®) laser therapy from ASA Laser to treat sports injuries in Glen Burnie, Maryland.

What is MLS laser therapy?
MLS laser therapy uses specific light wavelengths to penetrate your injured tissues. This FDA-cleared device combines dual wavelengths with continuous and pulsed laser emissions, which means it can deliver therapeutic effects without generating heat or causing damage to your tissues.
The laser light targets the injured area and stimulates cellular activity. This process boosts your blood flow, increases oxygen supply, and accelerates the removal of waste products from your cells. As a result, your body’s natural healing mechanisms are activated, which then helps repair damaged tissues more quickly and effectively.
During your session, you’ll relax in a comfortable position while Dr. Hamoy applies the device over your injured area. Each session lasts about 15 minutes, and most people describe it as a warm massage sensation.
What kinds of sports injuries benefit from MLS laser therapy?
Dr. Hamoy uses MLS laser therapy to treat a variety of musculoskeletal injuries. Some of the most common sports injuries that benefit from MLS laser therapy include:
- Plantar fasciitis
- Muscle strains and tears
- Tendon strains
- Tendonitis
- Lateral epicondylitis (tennis elbow)
- Medial epicondylitis (golfer's elbow)
- Hamstring strain
Depending on how severe your injury is, you may need multiple sessions. Dr. Hamoy may also recommend immobilization (in the case of fractures) and physical therapy.
What to expect from MLS laser therapy
Once Dr. Hamoy determines that MLS laser therapy is right for you, it’s time to outline your treatment plan. Expect anywhere from two to three sessions per week for up to six weeks.
MLS laser therapy:
Reduces pain
MLS laser therapy provides significant pain relief — thanks to the analgesic properties of the 905 nm wavelength — by reducing inflammation and promoting the release of endorphins, your body’s natural painkillers.
You’ll likely notice a decrease in pain after just a few sessions.
Reduces inflammation
Inflammation is a common response to sports injuries, but it can also prolong your recovery time.
While the 905 nm wavelength focuses on pain relief, the 808 nm wavelength helps reduce inflammation, decreases swelling, and helps you to move more comfortably.
Promotes healing
MLS laser therapy doesn’t just mask your pain. It promotes healing. By stimulating cellular activity and enhancing blood flow, MLS laser therapy speeds up the healing process. This means you’ll recover from your sports injury more quickly, so you can return to your normal routine without prolonged downtime.
Relief without incisions
MLS laser therapy is 100% noninvasive, which means no shots, no incisions, and no sutures.
